Siun sote – Joint municipal authority for North Karelia social and health services.

In addition, the joint municipal authority organises environmental health services and rescue services in North Karelia. The joint municipal authority started its operations 1 January 2017. Siun sote has a total of approximately 7,800 employees.

The joint municipal authority comprises Joensuu, Kitee, Lieksa, Nurmes, Outokumpu, Kontiolahti, Ilomantsi, Juuka, Liperi, Polvijärvi, Rääkkylä, Tohmajärvi and Heinävesi. Siun sote also includes the North Karelia Central Hospital, rescue services and environmental health services. There are about 166,400 residents in the area
