Exceptions to Opening Hours
This page provides information on exceptions to the regular opening hours of our services during holidays and other special occasions.
Please note that most of our social and health centres and service points are typically open on weekdays only and are closed on public holidays such as Finnish Independence Day, Christmas, New Year’s Day, and Epiphany. During these times, emergency care is available at the joint emergency clinic of the North Karelia Central Hospital.
Exceptions to opening hours during the 2026 winter holiday
Social and Health Centres and Service Points
When your local social and health centre or service point is closed, you can use any of the centres or service points of Siun sote. You can also book an appointment online (in Finnish) at verkkoajanvarauspth.siunsote.fi.
The following social and health centres and service points will be closed on the specified dates. During these periods, no nurse or doctor appointments will be available at these locations. The location of the nearest social and health centre or service point is in parentheses.

Appointment with a doctor or a nurse

The nurse at the social and health centre will answer the phone and assess the need for treatment. The nurse will give the required care instructions and tell you what to do. The range of services available in the online appointment booking service varies by location, so if you cannot find the appointment you need, make an appointment by phone by calling the social and health centre.

Physiotherapy
Scheduled appointments will take place as planned. The centralised telephone service for physiotherapy is available at +358 (0)13 330 2601. You can also book an appointment online (in Finnish) at verkkoajanvarauspth.siunsote.fi.
Islab sampling points
You can book an appointment for open offices via the electronic appointment booking service at www.islab.fi or by phone at the appointment number +358 (0)44 717 8888 on weekdays between 8 a.m. and 3 p.m. The operator charges a normal telephone charge for the call.
Siun sote sampling points
You can book an appointment online (in Finnish) at verkkoajanvarauspth.siunsote.fi.
The following Siun sote sampling points are closed on the specified dates:
- Kesälahti 2 March – 8 March
- Kiihtelysvaara 2 March – 9 March
- Tuupovaara 2 March – 9 March
- Valtimo 2 March – 9 March.
Dental clinics
When your local dental clinic is closed, you can use any of the dental clinics of Siun sote.
The following dental clinic is closed on the specified dates. The nearest dental clinic is in parentheses:

Maternity and Child Health Clinics
Between 2 March and 8 March, maternity and child health clinics will primarily serve pregnant women, mothers who have recently given birth, and children aged 0 to 1.5 years. Other child health check-ups and women’s screening appointments will be carried out when possible. You can also book an appointment online (in Finnish) at verkkoajanvarauspth.siunsote.fi.
The centralized telephone service for maternity and child health clinics is available on weekdays from 8:00 to 14:00, at +358 (0)13 330 2841.
The following maternal and child health clinics are closed on the specific dates. The nearest clinic is in parentheses:

Mental Health and Substance use Services
Scheduled appointments will take place as planned, but otherwise, mental health and substance use services will operate remotely or remain closed while the health station is closed. The centralised call service at +358 (0)13 330 2145 is open on weekdays from 8:00 to 13:00.
