Exceptions to Opening Hours
This page provides information on exceptions to the regular opening hours of our services during holidays and other special occasions.
Please note that most of our social and health centres and service points are typically open on weekdays only and are closed on public holidays such as Finnish Independence Day, Christmas, New Year’s Day, and Epiphany. During these times, emergency care is available at the joint emergency clinic of the North Karelia Central Hospital.
Exceptions to Opening Hours During Summer Holidays 2026
Services are open unless otherwise stated. Sudden changes in opening hours are possible.
Social and Health Centres and Service Points
When your local social and health centre or service point is closed, you can use any of the centres or service points of Siun sote. You can also book an appointment online (in Finnish) at verkkoajanvarauspth.siunsote.fi.
The following social and health centres and service points will be closed on the specified dates. During these periods, no nurse or doctor appointments will be available at these locations. The location of the nearest social and health centre or service point is in parentheses.
- Kesälahti 1 June – 12 July 2026 (Kitee)
- Lehmo 1 June – 1 September (Kontiolahti)
- Hammaslahti 15 June – 12 July 2026 (Niinivaara)
- Valtimo 22 June – 3 August 2026 (Nurmes)
- Polvijärvi 29 June – 2 August 2026 (Outokumpu)
- Rääkkylä 29 June – 3 August 2026 (Kitee) and Tuupovaara (Ilomantsi)
- Tohmajärvi 13 July – 9 August 2026 (Kitee)
- Kiihtelysvaara 13 July – 10 August 2026 (Rantakylä, Siilainen Health Station building)
- In addition, the health station in Heinävesi is closed on Fridays until 30 September 2026.

Appointment with a doctor or a nurse

The nurse at the social and health centre will answer the phone and assess the need for treatment. The nurse will give the required care instructions and tell you what to do. The range of services available in the online appointment booking service varies by location, so if you cannot find the appointment you need, make an appointment by phone by calling the social and health centre.

Physiotherapy
Closed: Kesälahti 1 June – 16 August (the nearest physiotherapy is in Kitee)
Pre-booked appointments will take place as scheduled.
The centralised telephone service for physiotherapy is available Mon-Thu from 7:45 to 16:00 and Fri from 7:45 to 15:00 at +358 (0)13 330 2601. You can also book an appointment online (in Finnish) at verkkoajanvarauspth.siunsote.fi.
Siun sote sampling points
You can book an appointment for open offices via the electronic appointment booking service at www.islab.fi or by phone at the appointment number +358 (0)44 717 8888 on weekdays between 8 a.m. and 2 pm, the call-back service is in use between 8 a.m. and 12 noon. The operator charges a normal telephone charge for the call.
The following Siun sote sampling points are closed on the specified dates:
- Kesälahti 1 June – 12 July 2026
- Kiihtelysvaara 13 July – 10 August 2026
- Valtimo 22 June – 3 August 2026
- Tuupovaara 29 June – 3 August 2026.
Maternity and Child Health Clinics
From 22 June to 9 August 2026, the clinics will primarily provide services for pregnant mothers and children aged 0–18 months. Appointments for preschool-aged children are available when possible.

The centralized telephone service for maternity and child health clinics is available from Monday to Friday from 8:00 to 13:00, at +358 (0)13 330 2841.

Mental Health and Substance use Services
Pre-booked appointments will take place as agreed in advance. When a service location is closed, services will be provided remotely or at the nearest replacement location indicated in brackets.

Child Guidance and Family Counselling Clinics
For urgent matters related to child guidance and family counselling, you can contact the service needs assessment for family and child welfare services, available at +358 (0)13 330 2806 on Monday–Tuesday from 9:00 to 12:00, on Wednesday from 12:00 to 14:00, and Thursday–Friday from 9:00 to 12:00.
The following clinics will be closed on specific dates:
- The Northern region (Juuka, Lieksa, and Nurmes) 6 July – 31 July 2026.
- The Western region (Heinävesi, Liperi, Outokumpu, and Polvijärvi) 6 July – 26 July 2026
- The Central region (Joensuu and Kontiolahti) 6 July – 17 July 2026
- The Southern region (Ilomantsi, Kitee, Rääkkylä, and Tohmajärvi) 6 July – 31 July 2026
Family Law Services
Family law services will be closed from 20 July to 31 July 2026.
