Oral and dental care
When you contact the dental clinic, an oral health care professional assesses your need for care and level of urgency. Based on this assessment, you will receive advice or an appointment for a dental nurse, oral hygienist or dentist.
You will receive an SMS reminder (in Finnish) for your reserved appointment two days in advance.
Dental clinics are open Mon–Thurs 8:00–15:00 and Fri 8:00–14:00.
See contact information at the bottom of the page
Cancelling a reserved appointment
If you cannot attend your appointment, cancel it as soon as possible no later than the day before the appointment. Appointments can be cancelled by phone or via the SMS service. A fee is charged for unused appointments that have not been cancelled.
Cancelling an appointment with SMS
You can cancel your appointment with a text message during the opening hours of the dental clinic. See contact information at the bottom of the page.
In the message, write
- I am cancelling my dental appointment
- all first names and last name
- date of birth without the final four characters of the personal identity code
- date and time of the appointment.
The text message cannot be longer than 160 characters. If there are more characters, the message will not be delivered.
Your appointment has been cancelled when you receive a confirmation.
SMS service for deaf or hard of hearing clients for making appointments
Deaf or hard of hearing clients can book or cancel appointments via SMS. The SMS appointment service is for non-urgent appointments.
In the text message, enter your full name, date of birth, and a brief explanation of the reason for the appointment. Send the text message to +358 50 902 3539. The text message cannot be longer than 160 characters. If there are more characters, the message will not be delivered. You will receive a response on the same day. You can also make an appointment on behalf of your child.

North Karelia Central Hospital
The North Karelia Central Hospital is located in Joensuu. The North Karelia Central Hospital provides extensive emergency care, and it has for long been one of Finland's most profitable central hospitals. In national comparisons, the quality of hospital care and patient safety are some of the highest.
The Central Hospital has all of the most important specialities except open heart surgery and neurosurgery.
The main lobby has a waiting area, a registration point and a caretaker's information desk.
The indoors car park is located directly to the left of the hospital entrance.
There are also a few parking spaces outdoors in the hospital area. In front of the main entrance and emergency clinic there are 30 minute parking spaces for escorting and pickup traffic.
Parking in the hospital area is mainly subject to a fee. There are only a few parking disc spaces with no fee, and the entire area is subject to parking supervision. There are disabled parking spaces next to the main entrance and on the 2nd floor of the indoors car park, for example.
