Wellbeing services county of North Karelia – Siun sote is responsible for public social welfare and health care, rescue services and environmental health care services for approximately 163,400 North Karelians. We operate in the areas of Joensuu, Kitee, Lieksa, Nurmes, Outokumpu, Kontiolahti, Ilomantsi, Juuka, Liperi, Polvijärvi, Rääkkylä, Tohmajärvi and Heinävesi. The purpose of our operations is to support, secure and produce well-being in order to make North Karelia a good place to live.

Siun sote served as a joint municipal authority from 2017. Siun sote changed from a joint municipal authority to a wellbeing services county on 1 January 2023.
